Sarah Spence Sewell, 89, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died peacefully Friday, August 19, 2011 in Roswell, GA. She relocated there in early 2010 to be closer to her family.

Sarah was born in Mecklenburg County, VA, the daughter of the late Clarence Spence and Dora Wright Spence. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Weathers Sewell. She was a member of First Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids since 1947. Sarah was retired from J. P. Stevens, Roanoke Mill #2, with more than 25 years of service.

Sarah is survived by her son, Ronald Sewell and his wife, Joanie, of Alpharetta, GA; her granddaughter, Austin Sewell Munhofen and her husband, Blair, of Dayton, OH; her grandson, Taylor Sewell of Philadelphia, PA; and her sister, Janie Walters of Roanoke Rapids.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, August 21, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Private graveside services will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
